Grab a sled (this one is a great deal!) and hit the nearby hills for a fun day of sledding!
Make a Snowman
Is it even winter if you don’t make a snowman? I think not! Which is why this obviously needs to be on your winter bucket list!
Make a Snow Angel
Plop down in the cold white stuff and make a beautiful snow angel. Bonus points if you don’t leave a hand print behind!

Go Ice Skating
Ice skating is another HUGE must during the wintertime! Ice skating is so fun to do, especially in a big group of friends or family.
Build an Igloo
Making a snow fort can be so much fun! However, the type of fort you make depends on the type of snow you have (quinzhee, igloo, etc.). Be sure to educate yourself before you make one (especially if you plan on backpacking and sleeping in it!) HERE is a great resource from REI to get you started in snow camping.
Go Stargazing Under a Cozy Blanket
Have a Winter Bonfire
Winter bonfires can be so cozy and fun! Be sure to do it on a calm, non-windy evening to bundle up!
Track the Weather for Snow
Tracking the weather for snow is one of my favorite things to do in the winter time! It always gives me something fun to look forward to!
PS: As a civil engineering and geology student, I am always having to track the weather throughout the year and have found that the National Weather Service site is, by far, the best and most accurate (in most areas in the States at least…). They even have an app that allows you to set specific weather alerts, warnings, etc. for certain locations.
Shovel Snow for Someone in Need
If you live in a snowy climate you know that with the snow comes a constant battle to shovel it. Make someone’s day a little brighter by shoveling their snow as well!
